01

Notice opens a process

A claimant, insured, or provider may notify an insurer and receive a claim number and adjuster contact. Notice is not an admission, coverage decision, or settlement.

02

The insurer investigates

The adjuster may seek reports, statements, medical information, bills, vehicle or property material, authorizations, and policy facts. Ask for requests in writing and read releases before signing.

03

Positions and negotiation may follow

An insurer may accept, dispute, or request more information about coverage, responsibility, causation, or loss. Negotiation does not automatically preserve a legal filing deadline.

04

A claim can end in different ways

A claim may resolve, remain disputed, be closed, enter another review process, or be followed by a lawsuit. Ask counsel about the next decision and the effect of any release.
